Relevant Domain Name
Provisions in the Dominican Republic

1. Generalities:
The following are the registrable domain names in the Dominican Republic:

EDU: General education, informal, higher education and research centers.
GOV: Governmental institutions.
COM: Commercial entities.
ORG: Non-profitable organizations.
SLD: Health organizations.
WEB: Web service development organizations.
NET: Internet Service Providers (ISP).
MIL: Military Institutions.
ART: Art Institutes.

 The domain name must not coincide with previously registered domain names under the same type of organization. Therefore, the applicant should verify that his application is not infringing a registered trademark. For your better reference please address yourself to RFC 1591 available at: ftp://rs.internic.net/policy/rfc1591.txt. The domain name should not constitute an obscene word or damage third parties. The maximum length recommended for a domain names should not exceed 26 characters including the 5 characters used to identify the Country Top Level Domain (.do) and also the organization type (com, edu, sld, gov, mil, org, web, net).

 The domain name should include letters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and -) and the only acceptable special character is the hyphen (-) which can not appear as first or last character in the selected domain name.

 The minimum acceptable characters for the domain name are 2 characters although 5 characters are recommended (to avoid coincidence with a previously existent). The maximum acceptable characters are 26 and should not exceed this limit.

 2. Application requirements for a .do domain name registration
 
Domain name;

  •  At least two (2) domain name servers (DNS) primary and secondary, geographically distant (without a common fault point). See RFC 920 for your better reference;
  • Complete name, address, e-mail, phone number and facsimile of the applicant;
  • Complete name, address, e-mail, phone number and facsimile of the Technical Contact;
  • Complete name, address, e-mail, phone number and facsimile of the Administrative Contact;

3. Term:
The domain name registration has a two (2) year term duration counting from its expedition. The annual maintenance fee covers a previously existent domain name (therefore previously registered), for a one-year natural period (January 1 to December 31).
